Brit throws 21.00m to join Ryan Crouser, Tom Walsh and Leonardo Fabbri in battle for medals on Saturday night in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

As most of Britain slept, Scott Lincoln enjoyed a brilliant qualification performance at the World Championships in Tokyo. With a best throw of 21.00m, Lincoln threw the fifth best mark of the morning in the Japanese capital.<\/p>\n

Diehard fans will have watched Lincoln's efforts as the competition unfolded in the middle of the night in Britain. Lincoln told AW<\/em> that a number of his friends and family also stayed up to cheer him on from afar.<\/p>\n

It was worth keeping awake for. His third round throw ensured he becomes Britain's first world finalist since Carl Myerscough in Berlin in 2009.<\/p>

It is further evidence that his move to Australia to train and prepare has paid off. After basing himself there last winter, he went Down Under again after the UK Championships this summer.<\/p>\n

\"We did 10 days in Melbourne, 10 days in Brisbane and flew in here two nights ago,\" said Lincoln.<\/p>\n

\"My competition's <\/span>not <\/span>quite <\/span>where <\/span>I'm <\/span>in <\/span>training <\/span>right <\/span>now. <\/span> <\/span>But it's <\/span>getting <\/span>closer, <\/span>so <\/span>that's <\/span>exciting. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"W<\/span><\/span>e're <\/span>just <\/span>going <\/span>to <\/span>roll <\/span>the <\/span>dice <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>final <\/span>and <\/span>see <\/span>where <\/span>we <\/span>go. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

\"I <\/span>was <\/span>up <\/span>at <\/span>about <\/span>seven <\/span>o<\/span>'clock, <\/span>just <\/span>excited <\/span>to <\/span>go. P<\/span><\/span>re<\/span>-match <\/span>nerves, <\/span>I <\/span>guess. There is a d<\/span><\/span>ecent <\/span>atmosphere <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>stadium for a morning session and it <\/span><\/span>gave <\/span>me <\/span>goosebumps <\/span>listening <\/span>to <\/span>the <\/span>Tokyo <\/span>team <\/span>running <\/span>out for the mixed 4x400m relay.\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tom Walsh of New Zealand led the qualifiers with 21.74m while Ryan Crouser, the world record-holder from the United States, qualified with a best of 21.73m despite opening his season in Tokyo after managing an injury in 2025.<\/p>\n

Walsh said: \"I think a lot of people view the qualification round like there is something to lose. But really there is something to gain, unless of course if you have not done it yet. It is always a nice feeling to throw well. Even my first throw was good enough to go through. Let''s hope it does not rain tonight, because the circle is very fast and it could be some contest. I generally like fast circles. It will be a good stadium tonight.\"<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
